Chandler was founded in 1912 and incorporated in 1920. In the late1800s, a veterinarian named Alexander Chandler settled in the area. Chandler studied the Native American canal system and developed an irrigation system using water from ground resources and the Salt River to change the desert landscape into fertile farm land.
The original town site started with 18,000 acres of land acquired by Dr. Chandler and today the city covers about 63 square miles. The town has grown from that small ranch and farm community in to a city that over 243,000 residents call home.
In 2005, Chandler’s housing market hit new highs with median new home prices reaching $330,810 and the resale median price at $288,900. Chandler is still attracting many new residents with its growing computer and communication industries. Averaging over 320 days of sunshine Chandler’s weather is another big attraction.
